Bar Basics training in Sydney

Bar Basics in Sydney is a relaxed, hands-on evening class (4pm–7pm) at our Haymarket centre, directly across from Central Station. In three hours you'll get behind a real bar — pulling beer, opening champagne, mixing cocktails, serving wine and learning the glassware, garnishes and service that venues expect. Every student takes home a Bar Basics certificate and a free eBook, Mastering the Fundamentals of Mixology & Bartending.

How do I book a place?

Use the class finder above to choose your course, location and date, then enrol and pay online to secure your spot.

Can you train my team or workplace?

Yes — we run group and onsite bookings. Call 1300 723 056 to arrange one.

Is Bar Basics nationally recognised?

No — Bar Basics is a hands-on short course, not a nationally recognised VET unit. You'll receive a Bar Basics certificate of completion. For the nationally recognised barista qualification, see our Barista course.

Do I need any experience?

No — it's designed for complete beginners. You just need to be over 18 and bring photo ID.

What will I learn?

Pulling beer, opening champagne, mixing cocktails, serving wine, preparing garnishes, tray service, glassware and setting up and closing a bar.

What do I need to bring?

One original photo ID (passport, Australian driver's licence or proof-of-age card). You must be over 18.

How long is the class and when does it run?

It's a single 3-hour class, from 4pm to 7pm.

What's the cancellation policy?

We can't refund no-shows or change-of-mind cancellations. You can switch to another class yourself through the Student Portal's Switch function — a switching fee always applies, and it's higher within 48 hours of your class. If you missed your class entirely or arrived too late to be let in, you can reactivate your booking afterwards via the same Switch function — 50% of the course fee within 7 days of your class, 100% after that.
