USI FAQs

What is a USI?

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a reference number made up of ten numbers and letters. It creates a secure, lifelong online record of your nationally recognised training and qualifications in Australia.

Why do I need one?

Since 1 January 2015, anyone doing nationally recognised training in Australia must have a USI. By law, your Registered Training Organisation (CBD College, RTO 91399) can't issue your certificate without it.

Does it cost anything?

No — creating a USI is free and takes just a few minutes at usi.gov.au.

My name must match — why?

The name on your USI must exactly match the name (and date of birth) in your CBD College student record — ideally your formal passport or ID name. Mismatches in spelling, date of birth or other details can hold up your certificate.

What if I already have a USI?

Great — just provide it when you enrol. You only ever need one USI for life, across every provider you study with. If you can't remember it, look it up at usi.gov.au.
