What this course is, and who needs it
The White Card is the General Construction Induction card you must hold before you can work on a construction site anywhere in Australia. CBD College's White Card course covers unit CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, delivered as a single face-to-face day with same-day assessment and certificate — no pre-learning required.
Entry requirements & what to bring
There are no formal entry requirements — the course covers everything from scratch. You do need a basic working understanding of spoken and written English, since assessment is completed and marked in class on the day and interpreters aren't permitted. Your trainer/assessor can refuse entry to the class if, in their assessment, a student's English comprehension isn't sufficient to safely complete the course.
ID you need to bring: 100 points of identification, including a photo, full name, date of birth, signature and current residential address. For example:
- Passport (70 points) + bank statement (25) + Medicare card (25); or
- Australian driver's licence (40) + bank card (25) + phone account (25) + bank statement (25)
Documents must be original and Australian-issued (passports excepted). Non-Australian driver's licences are only accepted if you've been in Australia less than 6 weeks. Your Statement of Attainment won't be issued without valid ID.
International students and visa holders: welcome, on any visa type. If you've been in Australia less than 6 weeks, you're exempt from the 100-point rule — just bring your passport, one other form of ID, and proof of your arrival date. You'll still need strong spoken and written English, as interpreters aren't permitted during assessment.
What to wear: comfortable clothing and enclosed shoes. You don't need to bring any PPE — CBD College provides it all for the practical assessment (hard hat, safety goggles, hi-vis vest and earmuffs).
Course structure & duration
The White Card course is completed in a single day, 8:30am–4:00pm, with everything — training and assessment — done face-to-face in class. You're assessed through practical tasks, written and oral questions, document review and role plays, all completed and marked on the day.
Delivery modes & locations
White Card training is delivered face-to-face at CBD College's Sydney centre only:
Sydney — Level 5, 8 Quay Street (Prince Centre), Haymarket NSW 2000 — a short walk from Central Station and Railway Square, with paid parking nearby.
Classes run every weekday.
Why is White Card only available in Sydney? Unlike First Aid & CPR, which runs at 15 centres nationally, White Card is regulated jointly by ASQA and SafeWork NSW, which is why CBD College only delivers it in Sydney.
Fees & payment
The White Card course is $119, one day, 8:30am–4:00pm. Book online through the class finder, or call 1300 723 056 to arrange group or workplace training.
Switching & cancellation
We can't offer refunds for no-shows or cancellations after booking. If you need to change your class date, a switching fee always applies — this is not free, even if you switch more than 48 hours ahead. The fee is higher if you switch within 48 hours of your class. Manage your switch through the Student Portal's Switch function.
Price match
Price match does not apply to the White Card course. CBD College's price match offer is limited to First Aid, CPR and Childcare First Aid courses only.
Certificates & USI
As long as you're assessed as competent on the day, you'll receive:
- A SafeWork NSW interim certificate, which lets you start working on-site straight away — you don't need to wait for the physical card.
- Your CPCWHS1001 Statement of Attainment (nationally recognised).
- A plastic wallet-size Construction Induction (White) Card, mailed to you by SafeWork NSW — this usually takes 2–4 weeks.
Your White Card doesn't have an expiry date. However, if you leave the construction industry for more than 2 consecutive years, you'll need to complete the course again before returning to site work. Once issued, your White Card is valid for construction work anywhere in Australia (it's nationally recognised, even though the training itself is Sydney-delivered).
Haven't received your physical card after 30 days? If it's been more than 30 days since your class and your plastic White Card still hasn't arrived, contact SafeWork NSW directly on 13 10 50, since they're the ones who issue and mail it, not CBD College.
A USI (Unique Student Identifier) is not required to book your course — but it is required before your certificate can be issued. It's free to create at usi.gov.au.
On-the-day requirements
- Bring 100 points of ID (see above; reduced requirement for recent arrivals).
- Wear comfortable clothing and enclosed shoes.
- No PPE needed — it's all provided.
- Good spoken and written English is essential — no interpreters are permitted.
- Assessment (practical, written/oral questions, document review, role play) is completed and marked the same day.
