In "How the Brain Learns" (2006), David Sousa sums up the crucial role educators and trainers play in creating learning experiences that are brain-friendly. "Educators (and trainers) are in the only profession whose job it is to change the human brain every day. It is our challenge to figure out what works and what doesn’t, to determine the effectiveness of new training strategies, to let go of old ones that serve us poorly, to add to existing knowledge about how the human brain learns, and to teach others what we know."

Level 1 (1 day):

1. Effective Openings - creating ‘the presence’

  • Captivate the audience and win over even the most reluctant participants.

2. Learning and Retention

  • Exploring the theory of accelerated learning and brain friendly learning techniques.

3. Learner Motivation – get them on board!

  • How to keep them learning after you have stopped teaching.

4. Designing a High Impact Lesson Approach

  • Using the ‘roller coaster’ technique to have participants on the edge of their seats.

5. Creativity in the Classroom – go wild!

  • The use of games, anecdotes, stories and activities to engage the learning process.

6. Preparing the Learning Environment

  • Creating the ideal training room for the visual auditory and kinesthetic learner.

7.Effective Closes

  • Designing summative training activities. Setting the path for future learning

Level 2 (3 days):

Level 1 plus Multimedia – exploring multimedia options for classroom delivery plus Individual training session delivery and feedback session x 2 plus personal feedback and coaching
